Our dormitory advisory is like a mother to all the residents at Graduate Dormitory. She cooked late night desserts for residents to share occassionally. One of her best is tapioca pearls with brown sugar. Tapioca pearls are the "pearls" used in bubble milk tea (or pearl milk tea). Thank you very much, residence advisor.

Yammy pearls~~

(And the dessert is a great stress reliever!)

Well, I should have started to organize notes for ASIS&T 2009 Sessions. But since social events are a major part of the conference, I will start from the foods offered during social events at the conference at Hyatt Regency Hotel, Vancouver, British Columbia.

Formal Business Lunch is a session to present research prizes, scholarship and prizes for local ASIS&T branches. It is also a break time from the heavy workload of all the tiring sessions and reports. People sit at tables and talk with strangers. I have to say, without the formal lunch, ASIS&T is out of food for spirit. I mean, without food to provide energy to concertrate on the sessions, full conference could be really tiring.

Jericho Beach

Jericho Beach is quite near UBC campus. One can just hop on Bus #4 or #84 from UBC bus loop and get off around Blanc Street or a couple of blocks after Blanc Street. It was a nice sandy beach for people to walk around or play in the water. Unfortunately, I was there in the late afternoon and it was a cloudy day. As a result, the beach did not look as remarkable as Wrech Beach.

Odun with Curry Sauce and Veggis is a easy-made main dish.

Just boil some water to cook instant odun and vegitables. Then mix some beef curry with odun and vegitables. Wa-La...A hot meal is ready to serve.

Vancouver City Hall is around the corner of the skytrain station at Cambie Street. Flags of "Cambie Village" can be seen on Cambie Street.

I was shocked when I learnt that I could only borrow books from UBC library for 2 weeks. Being a graduate student at NTU for years, I was used to be able to borrow books for 2 months, and renew books about once per 2 months. So, I read through the library's circulation rules, but couldn't figure out why I couldn't borrow books like other graduate students at UBC. Normally, graduate students at UBC could borrow books for 2 months as well. Then, I went to the library counter and asked about it. The librarians(?) at the counter checked my student card, the library record, and declared to me that I was an unclassified student at UBC. I was shocked. It was hard to define whether I was a graduate student or unclassified student in my mind since I attend master level courses there. As a result, I would like to have as much privilige as a true graduate student at UBC since its a tiring job to renew one's records online every couple of weeks as an unclassified student. Furthermore, graduate students often borrow materials to read for their term papers. It's really bad for an unclassified student to take graduate courses while one could not have as much time to read what they borrow as normal graduate students.
