The trip started on September 25 around 11AM. Some rotary club volunteers would drive SUVs to the International House of UBC, where the students are waiting to aboard and enjoying the weekend in Penticton. We took Highway #1 to Penticton and stopped for a break at Ernest C. Manning Park, which is named after a Canadian Politician.
The park is full of wooden grizzly bear statues and it is famous for its groundhogs. Unfortunately, we didn't have the fortune to witness any except seeing lots of ravens and crows.
Fellow travellers: 2 Americans, a German, a Japanese, and one from Hong Kong. I'll leave the names out since the blog article is quite public.
It was interesting to hear our driver talking about how he participate in local theatres and what kind of music he likes.
We did have an unfortunate incident since one fellow get car sick. But it's also lucky since we make a brief stop at the creek next to the road.
After our late lunch at the park and the small incident on the road, we arrived Penticton around 7PM. We even got lost while trying to locate the inn where we were meeting our host families. Each host family took in 2 UBC students, and my host family and another 3 families held a welcome party together, where we had pizza, red wine, and bowls of ice cream.
It was a great gather-around, strangers talked, became acquaintances and close friends. Came to think about it now, it seems that I am still not open enough to make more contacts. Shyness is something that I should try to get rid off soon.
